TWO-DAY EXPEDITION · GUIDED SELF-DRIVE · DESERT & COAST

THIS IS WHAT GETTING AWAY FEELS LIKE
The sea is only halfway through the story. Spend day one crossing Wahiba Sands, reaching the pale golden dunes near Al Ashkhara and following the coast to Khuwaymah. Camp overnight, then drive the big desert crossing back to Al Rakah on day two. About 480 km of Oman, from the seat of your own Polaris Pro XP.
FOXATVs’ two-day Wahiba Sand-to-Sea expedition is a guided self-drive journey through Oman’s Sharqiya Sands, also known as Wahiba Sands. Drive a two-seat Polaris Pro XP from Al Rakah near Bidiyah through Al Huwayyah, Falaj Al Mashaykh and Al Ashkhara to Khuwaymah. Camp overnight, then take on the big desert crossing back to Al Rakah. The planned route covers approximately 480 km: 250 km on day one and 230 km on day two.
595 OMR per two-seat buggy for the two-day expedition. One driver can travel alone or with a companion at the same vehicle price. Departures are arranged on request. Camping equipment, sleeping arrangements and meals are confirmed with the team before booking.
Your first day links the long dune lines of Wahiba Sands with the pale golden sands near Al Ashkhara and the open coast. A lunch break gives the day a pause before the coastal leg to Khuwaymah. Instead of turning straight back, you stay overnight and let the journey continue into a second morning.
Day two is the big crossing. From Khuwaymah, the route heads towards Quhaid, then crosses the desert back to Al Rakah. It is a different way home, with the distance, concentration and changing sand that make a proper expedition feel earned.
Give this adventure two full days and one night. Start and finish in the Al Rakah area near Bidiyah; confirm the exact meeting pin and return window with FOXATVs before planning onward travel. The expedition includes a coastal camping night, rather than an overnight stay at a Wahiba desert resort. Beach sections and the camp location depend on tides, weather and access.
For a shorter option, compare the full-day Wahiba Sand-to-Sea crossing or Desert Rush dune adventure. For holiday planning, explore our things to do in Oman guide and Wahiba Sands guide.
YOUR TIME ON THE TRAIL
Meet at the confirmed FOXATVs Sand Hub point near Bidiyah for the vehicle introduction, equipment and safety briefing. Start into Wahiba Sands from Al Rakah, following the guide through the dunes towards Al Huwayyah.
Continue towards Falaj Al Mashaykh, then cross the pale golden dunes of the Al Ashkhara area towards the beach. The changing sand and first coastal views mark the transition from desert to sea.
Pause for a lunch break, then follow the coastal route towards Khuwaymah where access and tides allow. Finish the day with an overnight camp in the Khuwaymah area. Day one totals about 250 km. Meals, camping equipment and sleeping kit are confirmed before booking.
Leave Khuwaymah towards Quhaid, then take on the desert crossing back to Al Rakah in Wahiba Sands. Day two covers about 230 km, bringing the planned two-day total to approximately 480 km. The team confirms the departure and return windows; keep onward travel flexible.

WE TAKE CARE OF THE DETAILS
595 OMR covers one two-seat Polaris Pro XP for the two-day expedition. Dates are on request. Camping equipment, sleeping kit, meals, drinking-water provision and any additional costs are confirmed in writing before booking. Transport to and from Al Rakah, insurance and personal purchases are arranged separately unless explicitly included in your confirmation.
A LITTLE PREPARATION GOES A LONG WAY
A valid driving licence is required for every driver. This is sustained off-road driving over two days; discuss your experience and comfort with the team before booking. Coaching is provided, but the route should not be assumed suitable for every first-time driver.
The itinerary includes one camping night in the Khuwaymah area and a lunch break on day one. Confirm tents, sleeping equipment, washing and toilet arrangements, meals, dietary needs and drinking-water provision before payment. The itinerary does not promise a resort, fixed campsite or full-board package.
There are two seats per buggy. Send passenger ages and any health or mobility concerns for route-specific suitability checks. The long-distance programme requires a separate assessment from a short buggy ride. Pregnancy and conditions affected by jolting or sustained exertion must be discussed before booking.
Bring your driving licence, closed shoes, comfortable clothing, sun protection, a light layer for the evening and any personal medication. Confirm the overnight packing list and meeting pin with the team. Keep personal luggage compact; transport to and from Al Rakah is arranged separately.
FOXATVs does not include personal or off-road activity insurance. Arrange appropriate cover for the activity. Read the safety guidance, liability waiver and booking terms, including damage responsibilities, before confirming. An enquiry is not a confirmed departure.
Follow the guide’s line and spacing. Helmets and seat restraints are required. No racing, overtaking, drifting, alcohol or phone use while driving. Distances are approximate; tides, weather, access and group capability can change the route, beach sections or camping location.

Send your preferred dates, number of vehicles, driver experience and passenger ages. Departures are on request; FOXATVs confirms the date, arrangements and any extras before payment. An enquiry does not reserve a buggy or confirm a departure.
This programme spreads the journey over two days, includes an overnight camping stop at Khuwaymah and adds a substantial desert crossing on day two. Choose the full-day Sand-to-Sea adventure if you only have one day, or Desert Rush for a shorter dune experience.
