Wahiba Sand-to-Sea
A full-day guided self-drive UTV crossing from Oman’s dunes to the Arabian Sea.

THE WHOLE DAY BECOMES THE STORY
One desert. One ocean.
Your hands on the wheel.
What is Wahiba Sand-to-Sea?
Wahiba Sand-to-Sea is a guided full-day self-drive UTV adventure by FOX ATVS in Oman. Starting and finishing in Al Rakah near Bidiyah, the loop crosses Wahiba Sands towards the Arabian Sea and returns through inland tracks. Allow approximately 9 hours and up to about 400 km, depending on the route and conditions. OMR 450 covers one two-seat vehicle, a guide, fuel, safety equipment, lunch, refreshments and trail support.
The moment the horizon turns blue.
The morning begins with sand in every direction. From Al Rakah, you follow the guide into the dune systems of Wahiba Sands: long crests, sweeping bowls and tracks that change character as the kilometres pass.
Then the landscape opens. The air feels different. Beyond the dunes, the Arabian Sea comes into view. Reaching the coast means more when you have driven the crossing yourself.
One day takes you through several sides of Oman. Desert driving gives way to a coastal pause, then inland tracks and village landscapes on the return. The loop brings you back to Al Rakah with far more than a photograph of the dunes.

September–April · Arabic and English · valid driving licence required. Starting time, distance and coastal access are confirmed around conditions.
SAND. SEA. A DIFFERENT WAY HOME.
Follow the changing landscape.
A typical loop moves through these landscapes. The precise line and order of stops can change; this is a guided journey, not a fixed-distance challenge.
- 01
Al Rakah: meet, prepare and get comfortable
Meet the FOX ATVS team at the confirmed Sand Hub meeting point near Bidiyah. Check in, fit your safety equipment and learn the controls before the group heads into the sand. Allow time for the briefing before departure.
- 02
Wahiba Sands: the crossing begins
Follow the guide through the interior dunes. Long ridges open into broad sand bowls, with a mix of flowing tracks and sections that need concentration. Previous UTV experience is not mandatory; the guide adjusts the pace to the group and the terrain.
- 03
Khuwaymah: the desert reaches the sea
Approach the Arabian Sea after the desert crossing. A coastal stop provides time to pause, enjoy lunch and take in the contrast. The location and order of stops respond to the day’s conditions.
- 04
The coast and Al Ashkhara region
Where tides, sea state and access allow, the route follows coastal terrain towards the Al Ashkhara region. Beach driving is conditional, and a coastal section may be adjusted or omitted.
- 05
Falaj Al Mashaykh: another side of the landscape
Inland tracks and village surroundings bring new textures to the return journey. The loop is designed to reveal a different side of Oman instead of retracing every kilometre of the outward crossing.
- 06
Return to Al Rakah
Finish at the starting area after approximately nine hours. Distance can reach about 400 km, but the safe, worthwhile route for the day determines the final distance. Keep onward plans flexible.

Driving licence and experience
Every driver needs a valid light-vehicle driving licence, must attend the briefing and follow guide instructions. Previous UTV experience is not required, but this is a demanding full-day crossing that needs sustained attention and physical readiness. Ask the team about suitability before booking if your off-road experience is limited.
Passengers and health
This experience is not suitable for children under 10, pregnant guests, or people with back, heart, serious respiratory, mobility or seizure-related conditions that make rough off-road travel unsuitable. Participants must be able to use the safety equipment correctly. Confirm passenger age and individual suitability with the team; seek medical advice if you have a relevant condition.
Insurance and waiver
Suitable personal travel insurance is required before this full-day crossing and is not provided or included by FOX ATVs. Arrange and pay for a policy covering Oman, emergency medical treatment, evacuation, repatriation and your guided self-drive high-performance UTV/SxS desert and off-road activity as driver or passenger. Any optional paid help is administrative or referral support only, not insurance, advice, brokerage or guaranteed cover. You review the wording, confirm suitability and purchase directly. Insurance does not remove your obligations under the booking terms or waiver. Sign the waiver before departure.
What to bring
Bring your driving licence and identification, closed shoes, comfortable outdoor clothing, sun protection, personal medication and a phone or camera for stops. An extra layer helps on cool mornings and coastal sections. Save the meeting instructions before travelling; mobile reception is limited in remote areas.
Season and departure time
Departures operate in the September–April season, subject to availability and conditions. The team confirms the starting time for your date. Tide windows, visibility, weather and sand conditions can affect both the timetable and the route. A private date or tailored plan may carry an additional fee.
Getting to the start
Transport to and from Al Rakah and accommodation are separate. Follow the latest meeting pin and arrival instructions from FOX ATVS. Do not take an unsuitable vehicle into soft sand. Request transfer arrangements in advance if needed.
Follow the briefing, the guide’s line and the required spacing. Wear the supplied protective equipment and seat restraint. No racing, overtaking, alcohol, drugs or phone use while driving. The guide can change the pace, route or coastal section when conditions require it.
