Leave the road behind and take the driver’s seat. Follow your FOXATVs guide over dune climbs, sweeping descents and open sand in Sharqiya Sands, also known as Wahiba Sands. Choose Captain or Elite Pro to drive yourself, or enjoy the same desert adventure beside a FOXATVs driver with Co-Pilot.
We introduce you to the vehicle, explain how to follow the guide’s line and support you throughout the route. Your hour on the dunes is yours to experience, with a team beside you from the briefing to the return.
Desert Rush is a one-hour guided dune-buggy adventure in Sharqiya Sands near Bidiyah. Co-Pilot costs OMR 35 per person; Captain and Elite Pro self-drive cost OMR 75 and OMR 98 per two-seat vehicle. No previous dune-driving experience is required.

Follow your confirmed arrival instructions to the Sand Hub. Allow extra time before the drive for check-in, equipment and the briefing.

Get comfortable with the vehicle
The team explains the controls, safety equipment, spacing and how to follow the guide’s line. Co-Pilot guests settle in beside a team driver.

Head into the dunes
Follow the guide through climbs, descents and natural corridors in the sand. The pace responds to the group and the conditions.

Take in the desert
Enjoy open views and photo stops where conditions allow. Morning, daytime and late-afternoon departures each bring different light.

Return to the Sand Hub
Finish your one-hour drive back at the hub. Leave time afterwards to continue to your camp or the next part of your day.
A real off-road drive includes bumps, slopes and changing surfaces. Your guide may adjust the route, pace or photo stops to suit conditions.

Follow the confirmed approach
The hub approach follows a gravel route beside the power lines. Check the latest instructions before continuing.
Open hub approachArriving in a standard car?
Do not enter soft sand. Arrange parking near the mosque or follow only the hard-packed route confirmed by the team. Ask about pickup availability and any separate charge.

Bring a valid driving licence for self-drive. Confirm participant ages and suitability with the team before booking.
Driver and passenger requirements
A valid driving licence is required for self-drive dune experiences. Previous dune-driving experience is not required. Confirm participant ages, guardian arrangements and suitability with the team before booking.
What should I bring?
Wear comfortable outdoor clothing and closed shoes. Bring sun protection, identification, your driving licence for self-drive, and the saved arrival instructions.
Health and suitability
This experience includes bumps, slopes and sudden movement. It is not suitable during pregnancy or for guests with back, heart or other conditions that rough movement may aggravate, or anyone unable to use the safety equipment correctly. Ask the team before booking if unsure.
Season, weather and booking terms
The main season is September to April. The team confirms your departure and may adjust the route to the weather and sand. Review the linked booking terms before confirming. Transport, meals and personal insurance are separate.
Wear your helmet and seat belt, follow the guide’s line, keep your distance and never overtake. No phone use while driving, racing, drifting or unapproved dune lines. The guide may adjust the route and pace to conditions.

Do I drive the buggy myself?
Yes if you book Captain or Elite Pro. Co-Pilot is the passenger option beside a FOXATVs driver.
Do I need previous dune-driving experience?
No. Instruction is provided before departure and you follow a guide on the route.
Do I need a driving licence?
Yes for self-drive dune experiences. Previous dune-driving experience is not required. Co-Pilot guests ride with a FOXATVs driver.
How long is the drive?
One hour.
Is the price per person?
Co-Pilot is OMR 35 per person. Captain at OMR 75 and Elite Pro at OMR 98 are priced per two-seat vehicle.
What is the difference between Captain and Elite Pro?
Both are self-drive. Elite Pro uses a higher-performance category above 150 hp, subject to available fleet allocation.
Can I join without driving?
Yes. Book the Co-Pilot option.
What is the operating season?
September to April.
Can I book a sunset departure?
Morning, daytime and sunset periods may be available. Choose your preferred date; the team will confirm availability and departure time.
Do I need a 4x4 to reach the hub?
That depends on the final approach used for your departure. Never drive an unsuitable vehicle into soft sand. Follow the latest FOXATVs arrival instructions.
Is transport included?
Not in the base price. A pickup or transfer option may be available separately.
Is the route always the same?
Not necessarily. Sand and weather conditions can require route changes.
Do I need insurance for this adventure?
Personal travel insurance is strongly recommended for this adventure. Suitable cover is required for any full-day or multi-day adventure or programme. FOX ATVs does not provide or include it; you arrange and pay for your own policy. Before booking, obtain written confirmation that it covers Oman, emergency medical care, medical evacuation and repatriation, and guided self-drive dune driving in a high-performance UTV, SSV or dune buggy, or participation as a passenger, for your role as driver or passenger. Standard policies may exclude these activities. Do not assume vehicle damage or your obligations under the Terms and Waiver are covered.
