Not every terrain in Oman can be experienced in two days. What a well-planned route can offer is a broad cross-section: rocky wadis, mountain climbs, gravel tracks and the dunes of Wahiba Sands. FOX ATVS connects those environments in the guided self-drive All-Terrain Expedition. Water crossings, walking and swimming depend on the selected programme and conditions.
A wadi is a landscape to read.
Wadis are more than swimming stops. Their beds can be wide and gravelly, narrow between rocks, seasonally wet or dry. The surface changes the way the vehicle moves, and the guide’s chosen line becomes part of the lesson.
On the mountain and wadi system around Al Jarda and Wadi Al Tayeen, the drive begins to demand attention to the ground. The experience is about working with the route and the convoy, rather than looking at scenery through a car window.
Jabal Abyad changes the view—and the pace.
Mountain terrain introduces gradients, bends, exposed areas and surfaces that demand controlled driving. Power is useful, but confidence comes from listening, choosing a suitable pace and following the briefing.
Some rocky sections are slow and precise. Other tracks open out and flow. These are guided expedition sections, not competitive rally stages. The guide adapts the pace to conditions and the group; no part of the experience requires racing.
Water is always conditional.
A photograph of a crossing records a particular day, not a promise for the next departure. Depth, flow, the submerged surface and wider weather conditions affect the decision. Where a crossing is unsuitable, the route changes.
That same distinction applies to swimming and walking stops. The programme and current conditions must allow them. A flexible itinerary is essential when the land does not stay the same.
Wahiba Sands introduces another kind of driving.
The full journey progresses toward Wadi Bani Khalid and then Wahiba Sands / Sharqiyah Sands. Hard ground gives way to sand, and the guide explains the approach to following the desert route and maintaining convoy spacing.
Dune driving is not a drifting display. The aim is a controlled progression through the landscape. The team selects the line around the sand, visibility, vehicle capability and participants.
The overnight stop changes the experience too.
Two-day formats include four meals and overnight camping arrangements. A night on the route gives a different sense of the place from a daytime viewpoint, and the next morning begins within the journey.
The camp is part of the programme, while its precise setting depends on the confirmed departure. Bring layers for the mountain night. Do not assume the lowland weather describes the whole route.
What “all-terrain” does—and does not—mean.
It describes variety within one expedition. It does not mean the route covers every landscape in the country. Oman’s wider environments, including the Empty Quarter and Dhofar, require their own journeys.
Likewise, Wadi Al Arbaeen, Dhabab, Bimmah Sinkhole, Fins and Majlis Al Jinn belong to the wider FOX ATVS route network. They may be configuration opportunities; they are not guaranteed stops on every All-Terrain departure.
Choose the route by its finish.
The Oman All-Terrain Expedition is the two-day progression from Al Jarda through mountains and wadis to the Wahiba Sands area. Choose it when the change from mountain to desert is central to your plan.
The Rocky Trails mountain loop returns to Al Jarda. Choose one full day for intensive driving and lunch, or two days for mountain camping and four meals. Both are guided self-drive experiences in a premium two-seat UTV or equivalent.

- Do you drive? Yes, behind FOX ATVS guides. Drivers need a valid car licence and must be 18+.
- Is previous UTV experience required? No, but confidence driving a car, sustained concentration and following instructions are important.
- Is every crossing or viewpoint guaranteed? No. Conditions and the agreed programme decide the route.
- Is insurance included? No. Suitable personal travel insurance is required for these full-day and multi-day adventures. Check the activity-specific insurance requirements.
