THE ADVENTURE, AT A GLANCE

Start in the mountains. Finish in a different world.

Two days. One continuous journey from Al Jarda through mountains and wadis to Wahiba Sands. You drive a premium two-seat UTV behind FOX ATVS guides, camp overnight and reach the desert with the route, fuel, four meals and technical support arranged around the expedition.

The journey keeps changing. So does the driving.

The appeal is the progression: a rocky wadi in the morning, a climb into Jabal Abyad, a night away from the highway, then a second day that moves toward Wadi Bani Khalid and the sand. This is the full expedition to Wahiba Sands, with a different finish from the starting hub.

Plan for roughly six or more hours of active driving per day, depending on route and conditions. Guides lead and support the journey while you take the wheel. Time out of the vehicle, meals and the overnight stop give the long driving days their balance.

Day 1 — Al Jarda into the high country.

Meet at the FOX ATVS Al Jarda Hub, accessible from the wider Muscat region. Check in, meet your guides and complete the safety and vehicle briefing before moving into the mountain and wadi system around Wadi Al Tayeen.

The drive builds from gravel and rocky wadi tracks to climbs, bends and more technical mountain surfaces around Jabal Abyad / White Mountain. Lunch breaks up the day. Water crossings happen only where the guide’s assessment and current conditions permit.

Wadi Al Tayeen: water crossings are conditional, never guaranteed.

The overnight plan brings the group to a mountain camp, around 2,000 metres where the selected route and campsite allow. Dinner / BBQ, a private sleeping tent and overnight equipment are included. Camp location, weather and the exact setup vary; bring a warm layer.

Day 2 — Wadi Bani Khalid, then Wahiba Sands.

After breakfast, continue from the mountain rather than starting again from a city hotel. Follow changing trails toward Wadi Bani Khalid, with lunch included and time for selected stops. Walking or swimming is possible only when the location, conditions and programme allow.

The Wadi Bani Khalid valley forms part of the expedition’s mountain-to-desert progression.

The final phase moves into Wahiba Sands, also known as Sharqiyah Sands. The surface changes again, and the guide explains the sand-driving approach and convoy rules. The full expedition finishes in the Wahiba Sands area; the precise FOX Sand Hub finish is agreed before departure.

A clear core route. Room to respond to the land.

Core route: Al Jarda → mountain and wadi network → Jabal Abyad → Wadi Bani Khalid → Wahiba Sands. Weather, water levels, damaged tracks, sand, seasonal access and group capability may change the exact line and stops.

The wider FOX ATVS network includes routes around Wadi Al Arbaeen, Dhabab, Bimmah Sinkhole, Fins and Majlis Al Jinn. These are possible configurations or conditional areas, not a promise to visit every location on this departure. Confirm your selected programme before booking.

A different skill in every landscape.

  • Rocky wadis and gravel tracks: read the surface and follow the guide’s line.
  • Jabal Abyad climbs and descents: controlled driving over uneven mountain terrain.
  • Open tracks: changing grip and flowing bends, always as a guided convoy—not a race.
  • Wahiba dunes: sand-driving guidance before the desert phase.
  • Selected walking, swimming and camping opportunities: conditions and programme permitting.

The machine has a job to do.

Your road car can meet you at the finish.

FOX ATVS can arrange an optional paid transfer of your road car from Al Jarda to an agreed finish point in the Wahiba Sands area, subject to availability and vehicle suitability. It must be agreed in advance.

With that arrangement confirmed, you can continue your Oman itinerary from the desert without returning to Al Jarda for the car. If you do not choose the transfer, agree another onward-transport plan before departure. The service is not included in the OMR 690 expedition price.

Plan the expedition as part of a wider Oman road trip.

A proper driving adventure. Know the demands.

This is a moderate-to-high-demand outdoor activity involving prolonged driving, vibration, heat, altitude and uneven ground. It is not suitable during pregnancy or for children under 10. Passengers aged 10+ require team approval and suitable seat and restraint fit. Guests above approximately 130 kg should contact the team about equipment limits before booking. If you have a heart, respiratory or back condition, recent surgery, significant motion sickness or difficulty with heights, discuss the demands with the team and seek professional medical advice if uncertain. FOX ATVS does not provide medical clearance.

Drivers must be 18+ with a valid driving licence. Previous UTV experience is not required, but confidence driving a car and a willingness to learn are important. Both occupants must follow the briefing.

Keep the adventure under control.

  • No alcohol, intoxicants or driving under their influence.
  • No racing, uncontrolled drifting, overtaking without permission or leaving the guide’s route.
  • Respect villages, private property, wildlife and historic sites. Leave no litter.
  • Follow the briefing on seat belts, helmets, passengers, stopping and convoy distances.

Pack for the wadi and the mountain night.

  • Valid driving licence and identification
  • Closed shoes and comfortable outdoor clothing
  • Warm layer for mountain wind and the overnight camp
  • Sun protection, personal medication and your insurance details
  • A small bag; swimwear and a towel if a suitable wadi stop is confirmed

A few decisions before departure.

Confirm the meeting time, Al Jarda arrival directions, finish point, car-transfer plan and dietary needs. Leave flexibility after the expedition: natural conditions can affect timing. Swimming, water crossings, night driving and cloud views are not guaranteed features of every departure.

“Best buggy trip ever” — a guest’s two-day view.

A two-day guest praised the organised start, friendly and experienced guides, and powerful, well-maintained machines. Dunes, mountain tracks and hidden valleys made the journey feel like a real expedition. The strongest impression was the personal, unrushed atmosphere and a team that clearly loves the terrain.

Before you choose your dates.

Where does the full expedition finish?

The full expedition finishes in the Wahiba Sands / Sharqiyah Sands area. It starts at Al Jarda and does not form a return loop. Your exact finish point is confirmed with the team.

How do I get my road car after the expedition?

FOX ATVS can arrange a paid road-car transfer from Al Jarda to the agreed Wahiba Sands finish, subject to availability and suitability. Arrange it before departure; otherwise confirm alternative onward transport. It is not included in the expedition price.

Is OMR 690 per person or per vehicle?

OMR 690 is per two-seat vehicle for the full two-day expedition, including the driver and passenger. A solo driver pays the same vehicle price. Optional transfers and vehicle upgrades are charged separately.

Do I need a driving licence and previous UTV experience?

A valid car driving licence is required and every driver must be 18 or older. Previous UTV experience is not required, but you should be comfortable driving a car, able to concentrate for long periods and ready to follow the guide. A briefing introduces the controls and the terrain; the team confirms suitability before departure.

Which vehicle will I drive?

A premium two-seat UTV or equivalent, selected for the route. Fleet allocation may include Polaris Pro XP-class or equivalent machines. A specific model or power output is not guaranteed. A Can-Am Maverick X3 upgrade may be available at additional cost; request confirmation before booking.

Does every departure visit every place mentioned?

No. The core programme progresses from Al Jarda through the mountains and wadis toward Wadi Bani Khalid and Wahiba Sands. Wider-network locations, water crossings and activity stops depend on the agreed configuration and conditions.

Do I need insurance for this adventure?

Yes. Suitable personal travel insurance is required before participation in every full-day or multi-day format. FOX ATVS does not currently provide, sell, underwrite, guarantee or include it; you arrange and pay for your own policy. Obtain written confirmation that the policy covers Oman, emergency medical treatment, medical evacuation and repatriation, and your guided self-drive off-road UTV, SSV or dune buggy expedition as a driver or passenger, including any dune driving and public-road sections in your confirmed programme. Many standard policies exclude motorised off-road activities. Do not assume that vehicle damage, deposits, personal liability or obligations under the Terms, Waiver or damage schedule are covered.
