The Experience

One expedition.
A world of contrasts.

The Oman Traverse is a two-day, approximately 350 km guided self-drive SSV expedition through eastern Oman. Take the wheel of a 2025 Polaris RZR Pro XP and connect rocky Hajar Mountain trails, hidden wadis, ancient highlands and the golden dunes of Wahiba Sands.

Technical rock crawling and Jabal Abyad’s White Mountain tracks lead to a guided walk in Wadi Al Arbaeen. Day two brings Bimmah Sinkhole, the highlands around Majlis Al Jinn, selected Bronze Age tombs and Wadi Bani Khalid before the desert finale.

Four meals, an overnight hotel stay and FOX ATVs expedition support bring the two driving days together. You drive. We guide. The adventure is yours.

Preparing your expedition…

Good to know

Everything before you go.

Driving, hotel stays and the journey. Find the details for The Oman Traverse.

What is The Oman Traverse?

A two-day, approximately 350 km guided self-drive SSV expedition through eastern Oman. It starts at FOX ATVs Al Jarda Hub and finishes at FOX ATVs Sand Hub near Wahiba Sands, connecting mountain trails, wadis, ancient highlands and desert dunes.

Do I drive the Polaris Pro XP myself?

Yes. You drive a two-seat Polaris RZR Pro XP while following the FOX ATVs guide. The team leads the route, explains each stage and coordinates support. This is a guided expedition, not an independent buggy rental.

Which vehicle is included?

The planned package includes a 2025 Polaris RZR Pro XP with two seats for a driver and passenger. Your allocated vehicle and any alternative arrangements are confirmed before booking.

Do I need previous SSV or buggy driving experience?

Previous SSV experience is not essential, but you should be a confident licensed driver and comfortable with a demanding off-road journey. Vehicle orientation and a safety briefing are provided before departure.

Do I need a driving licence?

Yes. Every driver must be at least 18 and hold a valid driving licence. Bring your licence and identification to the starting hub.

Where does the expedition start and finish?

Start at FOX ATVs Al Jarda Hub, within driving distance of Muscat. Finish at FOX ATVs Sand Hub in the Wahiba Sands area near Bidiyah. This is not a return loop. Arrange onward transport or ask the team about any available transfer options before booking.

How challenging is the 350 km expedition?

This is a demanding multi-terrain adventure with prolonged driving, technical rock crawling, uneven wadi tracks, gravel, steep gradients and dunes. Participants should be physically comfortable with two substantial driving days.

Are meals and accommodation included?

Yes. Four meals are included: Day 1 lunch and dinner, followed by Day 2 breakfast and lunch. One hotel room is included for the overnight stay. The hotel, room arrangement and overnight location are confirmed for your selected departure before booking.

Is the Wadi Al Arbaeen hike included?

A guided scenic walk is part of the planned itinerary. The walking route and duration depend on water levels, weather, time and the group’s ability. Walking and hiking sections are optional; swimming is not guaranteed.

Will we enter Majlis Al Jinn Cave?

The expedition visits the surrounding highland region and accessible viewpoints. Cave entry or descent is not included. It requires specialist equipment, qualified supervision, separate arrangements and official authorisation.

Can we visit the ancient Bronze Age tombs?

The planned route includes selected accessible stone tombs in the Salmah Plateau and Jaylah region. Access depends on the route, site conditions and heritage protection requirements. Respect the monuments and follow permitted access paths.

Is swimming included at Bimmah Sinkhole or Wadi Bani Khalid?

Scenic visits are planned at both destinations. Swimming is not guaranteed and depends on time, conditions, site regulations and the expedition schedule. Do not enter the water without the guide’s approval.

Is the expedition suitable for passengers?

Each Polaris RZR Pro XP accommodates one driver and one passenger. Passengers must meet FOX ATVs safety requirements and fit the seat restraints and protective equipment correctly. Confirm suitability for younger passengers or special requirements before booking.

What insurance do I need?

Arrange suitable personal travel and medical insurance independently before departure. Ask your insurer to confirm cover for guided self-drive off-road SSV, SxS, UTV or buggy activities in Oman, including medical emergencies, evacuation and repatriation. Standard travel policies may exclude motorised off-road driving. Vehicle damage liabilities and contractual responsibilities remain governed by the FOX ATVs terms and waiver.

Is fuel included in the expedition?

Yes. Fuel required for the planned route is included. The support team coordinates scheduled fuel stops, vehicle checks and operational arrangements throughout the two days.

Can the route or itinerary change?

Yes. Weather, wadi water levels, trail access, heritage restrictions and safety may require changes. Distances and timings are approximate. The guide manages adjustments while aiming to preserve the expedition’s variety and quality.

How is The Oman Traverse different from a regular Wahiba Sands buggy tour?

A regular buggy adventure usually focuses on one area. The Oman Traverse is a complete two-day journey across approximately 350 km, connecting rocky mountain trails, wadis, natural attractions, archaeological heritage and Wahiba Sands.
