The Experience

Oman, beyond
the familiar.

Grass and scattered trees break up the open landscape. The track threads between palms, then finds rocky hill trails that bring your attention to every line ahead. Later, the ground softens into sand and the Arabian Sea widens the horizon. The East Crossing reveals approximately 520 km of eastern Oman from your own two-seat Polaris Pro XP, with the FOX expedition crew leading the way.

Across two days, the changing ground keeps you in the moment: the next bend, a new view, a pause with the group. At Al Dhafra, park up for barbecue dinner, a tent and time outdoors before the next stage. Feel the freedom of a journey you take part in, with the route, equipment and support arranged around you.

Feel the landscape change beneath your wheels.

Preparing your expedition…

Good to know

Everything before you go.

Driving, camping and the crossing. Find the details for this expedition.

What is The East Crossing expedition?

Approximately 520 km through eastern Oman, including the Ras Al Hadd area. Follow the crossing through open tracks, scattered trees, palm-lined lanes, rocky hills, sand and coastline. Settle into camp at Al Dhafra, share a barbecue dinner and spend the evening outdoors. We provide the tent and sleeping bags, so the night is part of the adventure. Wake to breakfast before the next stage. Prefer a room? Contact the expedition team to arrange an optional hotel stay, charged separately.

Do I drive the buggy myself, or does a guide drive?

You drive your own SSV/SxS buggy throughout the expedition.

An experienced FOX ATVs expedition guide leads the convoy, provides driving instructions and manages the planned route. The support team assists with vehicle preparation, navigation and technical requirements.

This is a guided self-drive expedition, not an independent buggy rental.

Do I need a driving licence or previous off-road experience?

Yes. All drivers must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving licence.

Previous SSV or SxS driving experience is not mandatory, but you should be a confident driver, comfortable with prolonged driving and prepared for challenging off-road terrain.

A vehicle orientation and safety briefing are provided before departure. The FOX ATVs team will assess your suitability for the expedition.

How difficult is the 520 km expedition?

The East Crossing is a demanding, multi-terrain driving experience.

Over two days, you will navigate desert plains, coastal tracks and soft sand dunes. Some sections require sustained attention, careful vehicle control and physical endurance.

The expedition is best suited to adventurous travellers who are comfortable spending several hours behind the wheel each day.

What type of buggy will I drive?

The expedition includes a two-seat Polaris Pro XP SxS buggy. One driver can travel alone or with a companion at the same vehicle price. Vehicle orientation and a safety briefing are provided before departure.

Where will we camp overnight?

We camp at Al Dhafra. A tent and sleeping bags are included, along with the stated expedition meals. The evening outdoors is part of the experience, with time to connect with nature. Prefer a room? Contact the expedition team to arrange an optional hotel stay, charged separately.

Are meals, fuel and camping equipment included?

Yes. Your expedition includes a two-seat Polaris Pro XP, one spare tyre, fuel, lunch on both days, a barbecue dinner on Day 1, breakfast on Day 2, beverages and snacks. Protective clothing, helmets, a camping tent and sleeping bags are included, together with the guided self-drive route and expedition support. Please tell the team about dietary restrictions in advance.

Will we drive on the beach?

The itinerary includes an afternoon coastal journey along the Arabian Sea.

Driving on suitable beach sand may be possible in permitted locations, depending on tides, sea conditions, environmental restrictions and safe access.

Beach driving is not guaranteed. Protected beaches and restricted areas are excluded, and alternative coastal trails may be used when necessary.

Is the expedition suitable for children or passengers?

Most SSV vehicles accommodate a driver and one passenger.

For this demanding multi-day expedition, drivers must be 18 or older. Passengers aged 10 and above may be considered subject to FOX ATVs' approval, safety-equipment fit and the nature of the confirmed route.

The journey is not suitable for pregnant guests or people with medical conditions that make prolonged, rough off-road driving unsafe. Contact the team before booking if you have concerns about suitability.

What should I bring?

Bring your valid driving licence, identification, comfortable outdoor clothing, closed-toe shoes and sun protection.

For the overnight stay, bring personal toiletries, a change of clothes, any necessary medication and a warm layer for the evening.

Helmets and required driving safety equipment are arranged by FOX ATVs. A detailed preparation list will be provided before departure.

Do I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance and health insurance are not included. Arrange suitable cover for motorised off-road SSV/SxS driving in Oman, including desert driving, medical emergencies and evacuation where applicable. Standard policies may exclude these activities, so confirm your coverage with your insurer before participating.

Where does the expedition start and finish?

The expedition starts and finishes at the FOX ATVs Al Rakah hub near Bidiyah, at the edge of Wahiba Sands.

Both days form one continuous expedition loop, returning to the original departure area.

Exact meeting directions and arrival instructions are provided before the expedition.

Will the itinerary change because of weather or tides?

The published itinerary represents the planned route and approximate timings.

Weather, tide levels, soft sand, terrain conditions, environmental restrictions and group progress may require changes to individual stops or driving sections.

Your expedition guide determines the safest suitable route while preserving the overall experience wherever possible.

How is this different from a regular Wahiba Sands buggy tour?

A typical short buggy experience focuses on a limited dune-driving route.

The East Crossing is a two-day, approximately 520 km overland expedition across several different environments. You will cross from the desert to the Arabian Sea, camp overnight and return through Wahiba Sands.

It is designed for travellers seeking a complete self-drive off-road expedition rather than a short recreational ride.

What is the price and is it per person?

Current departure prices per two-seat Polaris Pro XP: 10 Nov 2026 – 11 Nov 2026: OMR 590; 26 Nov 2026 – 27 Nov 2026: OMR 620; 31 Dec 2026 – 1 Jan 2027: OMR 620. One ticket includes one buggy for a driver travelling alone or with one companion. The stated meals, fuel, guidance, support and camping equipment are included. An optional hotel stay is arranged with the expedition team and charged separately.

When is the next departure and how many spots remain?

The booking form shows the scheduled departures and the current number of buggies available for each date. Availability updates as places are booked. Once a departure starts, it is no longer offered for booking.
