We use high-performance, geared 2-seater UTVs (Utility Task Vehicles), also known as Side-by-Sides (SxS) or sometimes loosely referred to as Buggies or powerful Quads. They are designed to safely conquer the challenging off-road terrain of Jabal Abyad
You need a valid car driving license, but no prior UTV or ATV experience is required. Our guides provide full instruction and lead the convoy, ensuring a safe and manageable route for all participants.
This is a comprehensive 2-day expedition covering approximately 400 kilometers of challenging, diverse off-road tracks. We specifically choose this distance to maximize your exposure to the best of Jabal Abyad, Wadi Arbean, and the coastal zones. (Alternative Option for a different product: If you offer a shorter option, you could use this: “We offer both a full 2-day, 400KM expedition and a 1-day, 220KM blast through the mountains, ensuring a thrilling self-drive experience for any schedule.”)
Drivers: Must be 18 years or older and possess a valid driving license (car license is sufficient).
Passengers: Must be 10 years or older. This adventure is physically demanding and is not suitable for young children, pregnant women, or individuals with serious back/heart conditions.
We provide most of the essential gear. You should bring: comfortable outdoor clothing (long sleeves recommended for sun/dust), sunglasses, a light jacket for the cool mountain night on Jabal Abyad, swimming attire for the wadi/sinkhole, sun cream, a small personal towel, and a sense of adventure!
The ideal season for UTV Overlanding in the mountains of Oman is from October to April. During this period, temperatures are pleasantly mild (especially at night on Jabal Abyad), creating the perfect conditions for strenuous outdoor activities. We recommend booking well in advance for these peak months.
Due to the remote nature of the mountain and canyon trails, cell service will be limited or unavailable for significant portions of the drive, especially on the Jabal Abyad summit. This is part of the appeal—a true disconnection. Our guides, however, maintain communication via satellite devices and walkie-talkies.
Your safety is paramount. Our expert team continuously monitors weather and trail conditions. In the rare event of flash flood risk or dangerous conditions, the itinerary will be immediately adjusted, or the trip postponed/cancelled. We will discuss refund or rescheduling options with you according to our booking policy.
We operate small, guided convoys to ensure a premium and safe experience. Group sizes are kept small, typically no more than 6-8 SxS Buggies (12-16 participants), plus the guide and technical support vehicles. This allows for personalized attention and a better flow on the trails.
We provide quality, energizing meals suited for an active day. This includes a traditional Omani BBQ dinner under the stars on Day 1, hearty trail lunches, and a substantial breakfast on Day 2. Vegetarian or specific dietary requests can usually be accommodated if notified at the time of booking.
